Nature Rights promotes the Yasuni-ITT, an initiative in the Amazon to prevent oil extraction in the most biodiverse area of the world, Yasuni UNESCO Park, which houses a dozen of indigenous tribes.

The Ecuadorian Government proposes to keep indefinitely 846 millions barrels of oil underground if the international community contributes to at least half of the revenues otherwise earned. An international trust fund, supervised by the UNDP, will be invested in renewable energy, nature conservation and social development projects.

The fact that international community can invest in the Yasuni-ITT Initiative, amounting to half of what the country would have earned by exploiting the oil, is a simple, but revolutionary idea. This initiative is a unique project combining modern economic mechanisms with respect for nature and traditions. It provides an economically viable, technically ingenious and feasible solution to preserve our planet.

Its concretisation is a gateway to a positive future, engaging the world into a new development path that concerns us all. However, the Trust Fund is still to be signed between the UNDP and the Ecuadorian Government, and negotiations are conducted in a turbulent political sphere.

During the Film Festival of Cannes, Nature Rights organises a performance to obtain influent support to the concretization of this initiative, through uplift fiction (Avatar) to reality (Yasuni-ITT), using Avatar ‘s popularity, raise consciousness and spread a meaningful and real message which concerns all of us in this world of billboards, shows and fashion.

An event is scheduled at Villa Divine Comedy on May 16 at 6PM to screen the film “A simple idea and revolutionary”, by Laetitia Moreau, and an artistic happening taking place in several places, using facial make – up as a symbol of civic engagement, and shared values, embodied to become a Nature Angel.
NatureAngels will be shooted (video/photo) and their « avatar » will be published on NatureRights.com.
